Text description provided by the architects. Research buildings are always highly complex prototypes due to the diversity of their individual typological and functional requirements. Finding the right architecture is about broadening our horizons. About chaos and order. About the adequacy of things and the authenticity with which the architectural statement is implemented. But they are also about the added value of space – socially and culturally, architecturally and conceptually, technically and in terms of communication. This brochure demonstrates the relevance of an adequate architectural statement in creating added value for a building’s users while interconnecting disciplines and programs.

The photographs of the workspaces reveal a whole different world, one that follows a certain aesthetic and is designed to arouse curiosity. Although hammeskrause architekten must come to terms on multiple levels with the linguistic repertoire of disciplines outside its field, aided by images and close engagement, the scenes presented here manage to reduce the complexity of the functional, technical, and economic task of the architecture. At the same time, they reveal the scope of freedom afforded by a context-based approach. Highly professional and yet restrained, adapted in both form and function to the respective needs, the architecture is nonetheless surprising by virtue of an alternative weighting of the specifications.
